PEPPERDINE BOUNCES BACK
Waves women top Arizona in weather-shortened clash
Mikayla Arcebido scored at the start of the second half, and Pepperdine's 14th-ranked women bounced back from a five-goal debacle Friday to beat Arizona, 1-0, in a weather-shortened finale to the Wildcats' tournament in Tucson.
Arcebido took advantage of a miscue by Arizona goalkeeper Lainey Burdett, who lost control of the ball in front of her net in the 47th minute. The freshman gathered the loose ball and the Waves (5-2-1) were ahead just 106 seconds after the break.
The game was stopped in the 79th minute because of lightning, and Arizona (5-1-1) lost for the first time this year.
Texas Tech won the Arizona Cats Classic title with a 1-0 win over Arizona State in the opener of the doubleheader.
Hannah Seabert made six saves for Pepperdine, which was outshot, 13-6, and put only one shot -- Arcebido's goal -- on frame.
It was a good result for the Waves, who were thrashed, 5-0, by Arizona State in the tournament opener Friday.
Pepperdine plays Thursday at UCLA.
