PEPPERDINE SETTLES FOR DRAW
Waves overcome first-half deficit against Cal Poly
Emily Tanaka scored at the start of the second half as Pepperdine's women rallied from a first-half deficit to tie visiting Cal Poly, 1-1, Sunday afternoon, their first game in 10 days.
Tanaka tallied in the 46th minute for the Waves (5-3-2), finishing the rebound after a Meghan Schoen shot was blocked by a defender.
Elise Krieghoff's 49th career goal, from a Chelsea Barry feed, gave Cal Poly (4-2-5) a 29th-minute lead.
Pepperdine outshot the Mustangs, 22-11, but both teams put four shots on target. The Waves, with an 11-4 shot advantage in the second half, came closest to winning when Schoen hit the crossbar in the 77th minute.
Pepperdine, ranked at high as 10th this season, has won just once in its last five games and fallen out of the top 25. Cal Poly extended their unbeaten streak to six with their third successive draw; the San Luis Obispo school's only losses this season are to No. 1 Virginia and No. 8 Stanford.
Pepperdine opens West Coast Conference play Friday at home against Pacific.
