PEPPERDINE LOSES AGAIN
Missed PK haunts Waves women in loss at San Francisco
Slumping Pepperdine conceded an early goal and couldn't come back, dropping a 1-0 West Coast Conference decision Friday night at San Francisco.
Sonja Giraud put away a loose ball in the 16th minute and Madalyn Schiffel made six saves as the Dons (8-2-3 overall, 2-0-0 WCC) kept pace with first-place BYU, which has a three-point lead but has played one game more.
Pepperdine (6-5-2, 1-2-0), which missed a penalty kick in the final minutes, have won just twice in its last eight games.
The Waves came close to scoring in the second half, with Schiffel making a diving save on Hailey Harbison in the 73rd minute and Michelle Maemone hitting the crossbar in the 78th.
Pepperdine won a penalty kick in the 84th, but Harbison fired wide from the spot.
The Waves play Sunday at No. 25 Santa Clara.
