MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UC Santa Barbara's Seo-Im Kim
UC Santa Barbara's Seo-Im Kim is the LA Soccer News Menís College Player of the Week after giving the 22nd-ranked Gauchos a brief lead in their NCAA Division I men's tournament loss at Clemson.
Kim scored late in the first half to provide the edge to UCSB (14-7-2) in a third-round clash, but No. 3 Clemson (17-2-2) answered within five minutes, then twice took leads in the second half en route to next week's quarterfinals.
The sophomore midfielder from Overland Park, Kan., a Duke transfer who was born in South Korea and played for Sporting Kansas City's Academy, scored twice with an assist in 22 games this year for the Gauchos, four of them starts. He made 37 appearances, 14 of them starts, with two goals and five assists in two years at Duke.
Kim headed UCSB ahead after Cody Gibson's looping cross from the right wing found Josue Espana at the far post. Espana headed it across the goalmouth for Kim to finish.
Kim is the fourth player to win the LASN award this season. Geoffrey Acheampong was honored in September, Nick DePuy in back-to-back weeks in October, and Ismaila Jome was selected last week.
