MIAMI BRACE
El Tri blank Senegal, 2-0 in tune-up for World Cup qualifying

MIAMI--Late goals by Jesus Duenas and Rodolfo Pizarro lifted Mexico over Senegal 2-0 in a Wednesday night friendly in front of 15,588 at Marlins Park.

El Tri got off to a slow start, and almost fell behind in the 17th minute, when a turnover in midfield led to a Senegalese counterattack that sent netminder Jesus Corona diving to deflect the ball out of bounds.

Hirving Lozano replied quickly for Mexico, grazing the post with his 18th-minute shot, but the Africans continued to hold their own through the intermission. Both goalkeepers were tested in the back-and-forth match. Corona needed a diving save on Dame Gueye to keep the sheet clean in the 27th minute, and Senegal netminder Seydou Pape Ndiaye stretched to keep Eduardo Herrera's header out of the net in the 49th.

Mexico finally broke the ice in the 72nd minute. Seconds after entering the match for Jurgen Damm in the 72nd minute, Candido Ramirez volleyed the ball into the penalty area for Duenas, who opened the scoring with a header.

Pizarro's one-touch insurance goal, in the 87th minute, was set up by Lozano.
