OC Blues' streaks snapped
IRVINE, Calif. -- The Orange County Blues’ three-game winning streak was snapped as they were blanked, 3-0, by the Colorado Switchbacks at Anteater Stadium Sunday night.
Saeed Robinson and Luke Vercollone scored in the first half and Martin Maybin converted his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the second half for the Switchbacks (4-2-0, 12 points). The Blues (3-3-1, 10 points) also had a consecutive streaks ended of four matches unbeaten and three successive shutouts.
Robinson scored in the ninth minute, tapping in to an open net after 2015 Goalkeeper of the Year Brandon Miller misplayed an attempted clearance, snapping his shutout streak at 302 consecutive minutes over five matches. Vercollone finished a Miguel Gonzalez cross, chesting down and scoring his first goal of the season (26th of his USL career) in the 45th minute. Vercollone, a former New England Revolution midfielder and USL Most Valuable Player finalist last season, assisted on Maybin’s goal in the 87th minute.
