Blues blast Sounders, 5-2
IRVINE, Calif. -- The Orange County Blues FC rallied from a two-goal deficit to take a 5-2 victory over the Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Anteater Stadium Saturday night.
Following a scoreless first half, the Blues (4-4-3, 15 points) turned the tide with the entrance of substitutes Trevin Caesar, Akwafei Ajeakwa and Oriol Cortes, scoring five times in the final 30 minutes in snapping a four-match winless streak.
Andy Craven slotted past Josh Cohen in the 48th minute, then upped the Seattle (1-7-4, 7 points) lead to 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 56th minute, following a foul by Roy Meeus.
The pace and energy of Ajeakwa and Caesar sparked the Blues’ comeback. In the 60th minute, Jackson McCracken crossed to the far post for Ajeakwa, who scored on a diving header.
Then, Seattle’s Jordan Schweitzer was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Ajeakwa. Pavle Popara tied the score with a 20-yarder. In the 72nd minute, Brenton Griffiths stabbed in a goal off a Meeus free kick.
Sounders 2 had chances, Cohen making two saves. In the 84th minute, Meeus scored his second penalty kick in two games, following a hand ball. Joe Baccielo converted in stoppage time.
