OC Blues edge Rio Grande Valley FC

EDINBURG, Texas -- Two Didier Crettenand penalty kicks made the difference as the Orange County Blues took a 2-1 win over Rio Grande Valley FC in the teams’ first meeting at the UT RGV Soccer Complex Sunday night.

Crettenand scored the game-winner in the 90th minute. The game was played in difficult conditions, caused by a strong wind, and both teams struggled with possession early.

RGV (6-5-5, 23 points) created early chances. Josh Cohen saved a shot from Christian Lucatero, who came in alone off a through ball. Then, a Cohen error led to a goal, as he dropped a high ball, Kyle Murphy finishing into an open net.

The Blues (6-6-3, 21 points) grabbed an equalizer in the 45th minute, Trevin Caesar earning a penalty kick after taking a feed from Crettenand on the right.

In the late-going Cohen as he made a spectacular save, diving to his right to stop Memo Rodriguez’s point-blank header. The Blues then attacked, Gevorg Karapetyan earning a penalty, Crettenand converting the team’s sixth penalty of the season and clinching its second road win.
