REPLACEMENT DEFENDER
Galaxy's Van Damme joins MLS All-Star team

NEW YORK -- LA Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme has been added to the MLS All-Star roster, the league announced Tuesday. Van Damme will join Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos on a team playing against Arsenal FC at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif., at 4:30 p.m. PT Thursday, July 28 (ESPN, UniMás, UDN, TSN, RDS).

Van Damme has made 17 appearances this season, solidifying the Galaxy back line. The Galaxy has allowed two goals in the last six matches and 19 goals on the season, the second fewest in MLS. Van Damme, a central defender who played for Standard Ličge in Belgium last season, replaced
Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler (injured). Portland Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell is undergoing a medical to determine his availability.
