LIVERPOOL, England -- Add another big team scalp to Everton's growing collection.
A little more than a week after surprising league-leading Chelsea, Everton FC and its American contingent, midfielder Landon Donovan and goakeeper Tim Howard, stunned defending English Premier League champions Manchester United, 3-1, at Goodison Park Saturday.
It was Everton's first home win over United since 2005.
Donovan, who missed a sitter in front of the goal in the 38th minute, helped set up the game-winning goal, which gave the Toffees in the 75th minute. Everton manager David Moyes started Donovan on the left side for the first time since the Los Angeles Galaxy star joined the club on loan last month. Donovan's loan ends March 15.
With the score tied at 1-1, Donovan sent a short pass to Steven Pienaar, who ran to the end line and sent a cross into the middle. Second-half substitute Dan Gosling had little problems slotting home the shot past goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar.
ManU had taken a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute as Dimitar Berbatov put home a shot off the crossbar.
However, the Toffees equalized several minutes later on a hard 20-yard shot by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.
After Gosling's goal, Jack Rodwell connected for his first EPL goal in the 90th minute to put the finishing touches on the victory.
Howard, an ex-MetroStars goalkeeper playing against his former EPL team, was solid in the net, even though he was not tested.
